Amazababy 3D baby blanket
This is a machine knitting pattern.
November 2017: A similar pattern for hand knitters is now available, named Amazababy Twiddle Blankie.
For single bed manual, punchcard and electronic machines with or without a colour changer.
Sizes and yarn quantities are given for the yarn and gauge given, but any gauge machine can be used - just choose a suitable yarn for the machine gauge.
There are 2 files: the main pattern file and a separate appendix with photo-tutorials and additional information including using machines with different stitch repeats. The appendix is, of course, optional.
An eye-catching baby blanket or lovey designed for visual and tactile fun. It was designed to be visually appealing to babies - who don’t see clearly, so are drawn to strong contrasts - and to be fun to touch.
The edge trims can be unrolled and will snap back into place, each corner has “ears” to fiddle with, and the “eyes” can be pushed in and will pop back out. Although the blanket does have a right and a wrong side, the wrong side is attractive and has no floats for fingers to get caught in.
The pattern covers sizes from lovey to small blanket with a large number of choices of length and width, but the exact size will depend on how many needles your machine has, and on the yarn and tension used.
Equal quantities of two colours are needed, and a smaller amount of a third colour for the trim, which is knitted on afterwards using a sew-as-you-go technique that’s easier to do than the usual one, as the stitches to pick up are colour-coded.
This can be knitted in the yarn of your choice, but a dense cotton or cotton-mix is recommended for maximum 3D effect.
