Amazababy Twiddle Blankie
This is a pattern for hand knitters.
I have also written a similar pattern for machine knitters, Amazababy 3D Baby Blanket.
Amaze a special baby in your life!
This eye-catching blankie is for anyone who likes fiddling, twiddling, twisting and tweaking, but was designed particularly with curious babies in mind. Knitted in a suitably firm cotton or cotton-rich yarn, it has 3D hills with tweakable tips, a rolled edge that can be unrolled and returns to its starting position, and tags like a pair of rabbit’s ears at each corner.
The piece is started with waste yarn/a provisional cast on, and the trims are knitted on afterwards. Only one colour is used at a time.
The sample was knitted using Debbie Bliss Cotton DK, which is a thick DK, but any firm, cotton-rich yarn can be used. Instructions are included for making larger pieces using more stitches and rows. Whichever yarn is used, the needles will need to be smaller than usual for the yarn.
YARN USED FOR PICTURED SAMPLE:
Debbie Bliss Cotton DK, 168 metres (184 yards) each of 3 colours allowing for swatching
50 metres (54 yards) of similar yarn for waste yarn
OTHER TOOLS:
3.75 mm (US 5), straight or circular needles, minimum 30 cm (12”) long (or size to get a tight gauge in stocking stitch in your yarn)
tapestry needle
5 stitch markers, if wanted
Difficulty: intermediate
This pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the main part of the pattern.
Directions for making and attaching the trim
are given in written form with the aid of a photo-tutorial.
