Amazing lace sweater
Jokingly I asked an artificial intelligence imaging tool to design some lace sweaters. To nobody’s surprise it came up with some strange looks, but one of them actually inspired me, so I have used it as a source of inspiration and pulled it out of the cyber universe and into reality.
This sweater is worked bottom-up in the round, starting with some lacy details and then working upwards with a cable at centre front. Where the start of the sleeves will be, sts are bound off and the front lace V design is worked flat, as well as the back counterpart. Shoulders are sewn together slightly towards the front before stitches are picked up for the neckline which is worked in the round. Sleeve stitches are picked up and the top sleeve is shaped by using German short rows. Some details are added along “sleeve island” to make it more interesting.
The pattern contains many different stitch combinations and techniques so you need to be a fairly experienced knitter to pull it off.
Note that gauge is given for stockinette, but there is no stockinette in the pattern.
You need one color of Malabrigo Rios or another superwash worsted or DK yarn. Non-superwash yarn is not recommended since it will not make the lace bloom out as intended.
Needles used are circular 3.5mm/US4 in various lengths plus DPNs.
Testers rated the pattern difficulty 7/10 (they were all advanced knitters).
