Ambae
Ambae is the fourth piece of the collection « light of the Pacific ». After Upolu (the early sunset), Basilan (the sun at noon) and Arapawa (the storm) it will figure out the light of the fire.
Indeed, fire is everywhere on the Pacific islands. It is the light of those who do not have electricity, the warmth of those who do not have heater. Fires appear at nightfall, when dry wood is burnt to cook the evening meal, to weave mats, chat and cuddle babies. Fires burn along the hills when peasants open new gardens in the forest. Fire is sometimes glowing above volcano, as it was recently the case in Ambae. In the Pacific remote islands, fire is the life, the smell of its smoke floating imperceptibly in the air.
This long red scarf as been created to glorify the light of the fire. It is worked in a simple texture that recalls fire sparks. Two lacy edging figuring flame patterns are completing the piece. Left and right sides are worked separately and joined at the neck with Kitchener stitches.
