Ambling Along is a gender-neutral, size inclusive adult pullover for chest sizes 32” or larger. The front features a simple, gansey-inspired cabled pattern and the body and arms are knit in stockinette. Top-down set-in sleeves give a good fit at the shoulders.

The Ambling Along custom pattern is generated by entering body measurements into the spreadsheet that comes in your pattern download. A schematic is provided so that you can tweak your fit to suit you. Do you like a sweater with more positive ease? More negative ease? Quarter length sleeves? An A-line shape? Play around with the measurements you enter until you get the sweater that is perfect for YOU.

Supplies:
DK weight yarn (see yardage below)
Size 5 US/3.75 mm 16” or double pointed needles or one size smaller than size needed to match gauge
Size 6 US/4.0 mm 32-40” circular needles or size needed to match gauge (below)
Size 7 US/4.5 mm 32-40” circular needles or one size larger than size needed to match gauge
Tape measure
Stitch holders or waste yarn
Regular and removable stitch markers

Sizing:
Ambling Along is designed for adults with a full chest of 32” or higher.

This pattern is generated based on the measurements you input. It is designed to be fitted in the shoulder and upper chest, and have about 4” of positive ease* in the body and about 2” of positive ease in the sleeves.

Yarn:
For best results, choose a DK weight or light worsted weight yarn in a wool, wool blend, or an acrylic with good recovery. Choose a smooth, solid 4-ply to really make cables pop. Choose a tweedy or heathered yarn for a more rustic, cozy feel. Use a semi-solid, tonal, or speckled for greater depth of shade or a fun pop of color.

The pictured sample uses Quince & Co. Lark (134 yards/123 meters per 50 grams) in the Caspian colorway. Lark is a smooth, 4-ply, DK weight American wool yarn.

Yardage requirements:
The yardages below are approximate. I recommend buying an extra skein of yarn for safety, particularly if you are knitting for a tall person or choose to knit a longer cable section.
