Even though she is most famous for being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and for her mysterious disappearance, Amelia Earhart (July 24, 1897 – missing July 2, 1937) was a true pioneer in many fields, both as an aviator and as a woman.

Earhart set a staggering array of aviation records, authored best-selling books and founded The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. She accomplished all this in a time when women had few rights and even sparser career options. To this day, Earhart’s courage, determination and sense of adventure continue to inspire women to reach for the sky — whether they literally dream of flying or are simply searching for inspiration to make strides in any field.

In designing this hat, I wanted to capture some of her spirit and imagined what the modern-day Earhart might wear. The hat is worked flat then seamed together with the shirred panel, while the visor can be worked flat or in the round. Instructions for several different accessories will allow you to personalize and change the the look of your hat.
