This is an asymmetrical shawl that starts with 2 sts and ends with over 150. The faux stars are made by tying yarn around a stitch when the pattern tells you to. Fray Check works to hold the knots in place.

The pattern could be adapted to using other yarns simply by adjusting your needle sizes. I find that steam blocking works great to open up the rows.
