Amusing Knitted Balls -- Mostly Garter Stitch
There are directions to make three sizes of balls, 2”, 3”, and 4” diameter. There is a small amount of fair isle in the flat bands if you wish, but the balls are very attractive even without the color work. This is an excellent pattern for using up scrap yarns. Somehow these stripes look great in everything from simple black and white right through rainbow colors. I give some pointers on Kitchener stitch and how to get your head around it.
Other than the Kitchener and the two color knitting in the flat bands (12 rows in all), this is a very simple knitting project that I actually designed years ago for my middle school knitters when I was homeschooling. It was particularly successful with the boys, who could think up no end of fun and potentially troublesome things to do with the finished balls.
