An 1880s Working Gansey
by Pam Connolly
This traditional fishermen’s sweater is inspired by an old pattern reproduced in Michael Pearson’s book Traditional Handknitting. I designed this version for contemporary knitters to include four adult sizes, neckline shaping, and a little more ease of fit. The welt is overlapped for greater durability, and the shoulder fit provides a little more movement. I also created a different shoulder detail. I hope you enjoy knitting it!
