This is a small apple, the size my son prefers for his lunch, it’s made using just a few yards of fingering weight wool. For a larger apple simply use a heavier yarn and larger needles.

This is also what I like to call a “felt in the mouth” toy -- if it’s given to a child under 3 it will probably end up felting a bit as it’s played with. I like the way this looks, and when it gets dirty or seems uneven I just toss it in the washer. So while it’s a good project for using up scraps, make sure you know ahead of time how your yarn reacts to being felted, especially if you’re using two different yarns.
