H is her hat with an elegant feather

One of my favorite childhood books was “A is for Annabelle” by Tasha Tudor. As my mom would read the simple alphabet book over and over, I remember wishing that my grandmother had such an elegant doll with all of her fascinating accessories.

This sock pattern is was designed in reference to the part of book which talks about the doll’s hat with an “Elegant Feather.” An Elegant Feather is knit toe up with a heel flap and gusset, the pattern also showcases a lovely cabled feather design that softly falls down the side of the sock.

This is the first pattern in a four pattern collection that will feature whimsical designs based on the book “A is for Annabelle.” These designs will be incorporate both cables and lace in fun and interesting ways.

This pattern is written in sizes XS, S, M, L and XL to fit a foot circumference of approximately 7.0” 7.5”, 8”, 8.5” and 9” (18, 19, 20.5, 21.5, 22.5cm). The pattern is written for 56, 60 ,64, 68 and 72 sts. The cables are more snug than stockinette, so most knitters found that 4 sts more than their usual cast on gave the best fit.

When choosing yarn for this design, keep in mind that the cables will get lost in self striping, heavily variegated and darker yarns. The design shows up best in solids, tonal and lightly speckled yarns that are lighter in shade.
