An Iarthair (‘The Western’) is a simple colorwork cardigan/jacket with set in sleeves and a tailored look. This creates a figure flattering look while still being relatively simple to crochet. The tapestry colorwork uses a maximum of 2 colors per row, and the shaping mostly occurs on rows without colorwork. A video is included to help with the colorwork and the sleeve shaping.

This pattern uses the tapestry crochet technique of stranded colorwork, using a maximum of 2 colors per row. Gauge may be tighter over colorwork and looser over a single-color swatch of the same stitch count.

This cardigan is an intermediate level project which requires both stranded colorwork and shaping using short rows. The tapestry colorwork uses the ‘fair isle’ technique of keeping each individual row to a maximum of 2 colors for simplicity. This pattern would be a good introduction for an advanced beginner who would like to try their first intermediate level pattern. The short row shaping for the sleeves are supported by a video and are also suitable for someone who hasn’t tried these techniques before but would like to advance to more complex garment shaping.
