The illusion is based on a work by Russian artist Lodygin Sergey Pavlovich, (1893 - 1961). There is very little information about him. In his early years he drew for magazines and advertisements and seems to have been involved in political drawings at the time of the Russian Revolution. Later he had his own graphic studio and was also a theatre designer.

The image is a very complex drawing of a surreal head and flower. The complexity of the image doesn’t make it any more difficult than any other illusion knitting. It is easy to do because you are only using one colour at a time to knit stripes.

When you look directly at the illusion you only see stripes. When you look from the side you see the image. One of the photos is a moving image so you can see how it changes.

The illusion can be knitted in any thickness of yarn. The original is in DK and measures approximately 104 cm x 132 cm (41” x 52”).

The pattern has various versions of the chart, including one intended for tablet users, to make it as easy as possible for you to make this without ever losing your place.

The bottom photo is a moving animation.
