Anabranch: a channel of water that diverges from a stream and then rejoins it further downstream.

I wanted to design a fingerless glove with a Celtic knot that flowed from top to bottom, splitting organically to twine around the thumb. When I saw photos of rivers splitting to flow around islands, I knew I had my inspiration.

This pattern is worked in the round at the start, then worked flat around the thumb, then joined to work in the round again. The cables are worked on both the right side and the wrong side during the flat section. It is fully written, and includes charts for the cables.

The sizes change through switching needles, not increasing the number of stitches.

Choose US 6 / 4 mm needles for size S/M. Gauge: 5 sts=1” in stockinette.
Choose US 7 / 4.5 mm needles for size L/XL. Gauge: 9 sts=2” in stockinette.

Any worsted weight yarn can be substituted in this pattern, but be sure to check the gauge.
