Ancient Path Socks
A cuff-down stranded sock inspired by pictures on Pinterest of Celtic knotwork and spirals. Sizing can be adjusted by using heavier weight yarn and larger diameter needles.
What you will need:
2 contrasting colours of fingering weight/4ply sock yarn. The colours may be solid, semi-solid or gradiant. Self striping may work for the contrast colour, providing there is enough contrast with the main colour. The yarn shown in the photos is Regia Hand Dye Effect, which I am not recommending because it does not have much stretch to it.
Main Colour (shown on charts as dark grey) – Approx 220-240 yards (sample used 212yd)
Contrast Colour (shown on charts as light grey) - Approx 150-170 yards (sample used 143yd)
2.25mm needles (DPN, Circular or Magic Loop) or appropriate size to get a gauge of approx 8-9 stitches and 9-10 rows per inch.
Stitch markers as needed.
Wool needle for grafting the toes.
You may also like to use a 2-3mm (approx) crochet hook for picking up stitches along edges of heel flap.
Please note that the pattern has been test knit only by me.
This pattern is intended for personal, not-for-profit use only.
