September 10
September tenth….the year starts home.
morning broke clear today
no fog….no rain
only a clear cold september morning.
It’s autumn all right
you can feel it
with the taste of summer still in my mouth
my lungs breathe autumn.
the year goes back from where it came
like a battered kite being brought in
like a watch spring unwinding
like children to houses
when darkness comes.
now night hovers
and madrigals begin again.
-Rod McKuen, And Autumn Came
And Autumn Came is a crescent shawl that celebrates the fall season. It is knit in madelinetosh tosh chunky and it uses only 3 skeins. It is a quick knit that will help get you in a fall mood, no matter what your season. Knit top down in stockinette stitch with a leaf lace motif and then a wheat stitch motif before binding off with a picot bind off. Tiny tassels adorn the ends of the shawl to give it that little something extra. Take time to enjoy the beauty of the fall season! Happy Knitting and Happy Fall!

Note on the Tosh Chunky
The madelinetosh chunky to me, doesn’t really feel like a bulky weight…it is more of a worsted/aran feel…..just a tiny bit thicker than Malabrigo Rios but thinner than the Malabrigo Twist. Therefore I have listed the yarn gauge at worsted. Malabrigo Rios or even madelinetosh Vintage could very well be an alternate yarn choice.(You might want to go down in needle size if you do use malabrigo rios or tosh vintage.) This is not a true bulky yarn, so please, please keep this in mind when choosing a yarn. :) Also, since the madelinetosh yarn doesn’t carry a weight on the label, I had to go by the weight of the skeins which was 115 grams. So if you are looking for yarn then I would just go by the full yardage listed at 495 yards, even though I didn’t use all of the skeins. I used 1 full skein, and then had 20 grams left out of my second skein of Spicewood (this is including the tassels that I made) and 28 grams left from the skein of Saffron. The tosh chunky drapes beautifully after it is blocked and it softens up too.
