Andromeda cap
Andromeda - a spiral galaxy with arms reaching out in sacred geometry to twist and swirl across the night sky.
This top down hat can be knit in any weight yarn. You simply cast on 8 stitches and increase until you have the perfect size hat for you.
Yarns
You will need 2 yarns of contrasting colors. Two solid colored yarns, or one solid and one not, would work best.
For the knitted examples in the pattern, I used:
Sport version 1 (Orange/Blue):
MC - Spincycle Yarns, Dyed in the Wool - Castaway - 35 g or 128 yds 117 m
CC - Handspun wool and alpaca - 25 g or 90 yds 82 m
Sport version 2 (Gray/Blue):
MC - Spincycle Yarns, Dyed in the Wool - Neveruary - 35 g or 128 yds 117 m
CC - Spincycle Yarns, Wilder - Light Gray - 25 g or 90 yds 82 m
Worsted version (Yellow/Red):
MC - Green Mountain Spinnery, Weekend Wool - Pollen/8577 - 40 g or 80 yds 73 m
CC - Green Mountain Spinnery, Weekend Wool - Chestnut/8872 - 35 g or 70 yds 64 m
Gauge
Varies. With the Green Mountain Spinnery yarn, I achieved 20 sts & 40 rows = 4” / 10 cm; with Spincycle yarn I achieved 22 sts & 44 rows = 4” / 10 cm, both in garter stitch, blocked.
Sizes
Variable sizes; above hats knit to fit adult 21 - 23” 53 - 58 cm head circumference
Tools

Circular needle - use the recommended needle size or one size up for the yarn that you are using. For my worsted version I used US #7/4.5 mm circular needle 32” magic loop. For my sport versions I used US #3/3.25 mm circular needle 32” magic loop
-
Circular needle 1 size smaller for ribbing. (Ex. if you use a US #7/4.5mm, you would use a US #6/4 mm)
-
