Anemology
Anemology is the study of the wind.
This pattern showcases a windmill mosaic that can be displayed at either end of the wrap, or from the wrist if seamed into a poncho.
This project is a great way to use up those mini-skeins you’ve been collecting, or that really awesome variegated yarn that deserves to be showcased.
Simply add a coordinating solid or semi-solid to create a truly amazing wrap or an asymmetrical poncho with wonderful drape.
This project has just enough design elements to keep it interesting, and relaxing garter and stockinette to help it fly off of your needles.
Details
Sizing
The unfolded rectangle is about 24” x 60”.
The folded rectangle is about 24” x 30”.
This is a one-size pattern, but is easily customizable simply by adding or subtracting from either the width or length of the rectangle.
Yardage in Fingering Weight Yarn
- Main Color: About 530 yards
- Contrasting Color: less than 580 yards
- Sample was knit using 8 mini-skeins (approx. 72 yards / 20 grams) HOWEVER, most were not used in their entirety
- If using a single contrasting color, I would still make sure to have not much less than 580 yards, just to be safe. Also, you may want a solid or semi-solid mini-skein for the mosaic.
Gauge
This is intended to have a significant amount of drape, yet also supply warmth. I suggest swatching to see if you can at least get close to the suggested gauge, though with this kind of design, it’s not as essential as it would be on a fitted garment.
Above all, let your imagination fly like the wind!
