Anemone Shawl
Anemone is a top-down triangular shawl that begins with a garter tab CO and wider than it is deep. Alternating garter half stripes break up the monotony of Stockinette stitch in the body and add textural interest. The ribbed edging is easy to follow and can be worked as shallow or as deep as you like to adjust the size and make a snuggly shawl you won’t want to take off!
Size: Approximately 70” w by 22” h after blocking. Size is easily adjustable, but you’ll need to make sure you have enough yarn if you want to increase the size.
Gauge: 18.5 sts and 33 rows=4” in Anemone pattern (body pattern).
Materials: US size 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle, 40” or longer to accommodate the large number of sts, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, stitch markers.
Yarn: Sample shown used approximately 635 yds of Yakity Yak Sock yarn from Little Ms. Stitch (70/20/10 SW Merino/Yak/Nylon) in colorway Mermaid Grotto. If using a hand-dyed yarn, I strongly recommend alternating skeins to blend the colors and avoid pooling. You can find Little Ms. Stitch on Etsy.
Inspiration: I fell in love with this yarn base and color immediately. The yarn is softly variegated, but doesn’t detract from the textured pattern in the body, and the colors are just like me--deep and moody. I’ve been listening to a lot of Band-Maid lately, and one of my favorite songs is “Anemone.” The yarn and the pattern just seem to fit that song, so the pattern name was a no-brainer. You can find a gorgeous acoustic live performance of “Anemone” here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Mxz9rJXkk (start at 6:07; Anemone is the second song in the video.)
