This hat works up very quickly, fits well, and holds it shape. The “messy bun” top is angled from front to back, rather than just having a hole at the top. This allows your hair to be worn toward the back of your head, where your “messy bun” is typically situated. Very easy to make yarn substitutions. Short rows are required for shaping, but they are easy in this pattern.
Size: Adult small/med (20” circumference before shaping) and (med/large; 22”)

Notes on sizes and shaping:
For a proper fit, the messy-bun design is more forgiving than a typical hat. However, as this hat is to be fitted and snug, for the best fit, determine how long you want the hat to be before you begin shaping the crown. Depending on the fit you desire, you can shorten or lengthen prior to the shaping section.

Materials:
Yarn: 1 strand of super bulky (#6), or two strands of bulky (#5), or 3-4 strands of worsted weight yarn held tog. Hats have been made successfully with 1 strand of LB T&Q (shown in photo), 2 strands of LB Scarfie, 2 strands LB Homespun, and even 3-4 strands of worsted weight Super Saver. When using multiple strands, you can also opt to periodically change one of the strands to create a gradual ombre effect. The multiple-strand worsted weight hat is very warm!
