Scarf pattern “ANIMAL”- playful knit model with crochet fringes, US terms.

Following this pattern you’ll be able to knit warm and cozy striped scarf using garter stitch knit pattern (very easy to do; the best pattern for the scarf as the garment edges will never curl). Decorated with the crochet “claws” - fringes. Easy fun design will safe you from boring when working this scarf. I’ve designed and created this alpaca scarf about 12 years ago, still love to wear it.

PLEASE, NOTE that by buying this product you are not getting a scarf, but a PDF pattern of a scarf. You will get two types of instructions: short description and beginner- friendly tutorial (detailed step-by-step description with images). Also there is a crochet diagram drawing for fringes and layout of the yarn color shades for the original model (and for the shorter version of the scarf).
No refund on digital files.

This pattern is created for autumn/winter scarf to use with plied alpaca and/or wool yarns, a bit hairy textured or felted, loosely or medium twisted.
You can try this also with the smooth yarns but to hide all yarn tails will be a bit harder as the scarf is a reversible garment so the yarn ends will be a little visible on the one side.

GARMENT SIZE AND DIMENSION:
Adult size. Rectangular shape.
Finished original scarf: width - 27 cm (10 5/8 in); length - 205 cm (80 11/16 in) + 5 cm (1 15/16 in) fringes at each end = 215 cm (84 5/8 in).
Shorter scarf option: width - 27 cm (10 5/8 in); length - 177.5 cm (69 7/8 in). + 5 cm (1 15/16 in) fringes at each end = 187.5 cm (73 13/16 in).

SKILL LEVEL:
Beginner. For the scarf you must know how to knit the garter stitch pattern.
Also, you must know how to make a crochet chain (started knotless) and slip stitches (used for the cast on, bind off and for the fringes; tutorials included).
For the best quality you need some experience to provide same tension for each stitch. This is important not only for my pattern but for any other too.

MATERIALS:
NOTE: First 3 yarns were used for the original model but they’re discontinued; other similar yarns suggested. Best are the yarns of 4 or more plies.
This scarf was made with loose-twisted plied alpaca yarns of few brands (all discontinued), 1 skein or ball - approximately 100 m/ 50 g (109 yd/ 1 49/64 oz). Used amount of yarns in 9 different shades: for the original model - about 413 g (14 9/16 oz); for the shorter scarf option - 358 g (12 5/8 oz).
The black is the main color in my design so I’ve used about 2 balls of it. If you don’t like black, purchase two balls in the other color you like best. Also you can use yarn leftovers or more than 9 colors, if you want.

TOOLS:
Needles size 4 (3.5 mm); hook E-4 (3.5 mm); tapestry needle; measuring tape, scissors.
