I searched inspiration to these socks from the sea, piers and robes used in boats. The cable pattern used in these socks remainds me of boat robes and different nodes, that you can do with them. And thats why these socks are called “Ankkuri”. The word ‘ankkuri’ means anchor in Finnish.
Because these socks are sea-inspired, the color of the yarn also needed to be linked into the sea. So I started to search the perfect blue-grey yarn. This Säie Wool Sock Classic yarn in the colorway “After the Storm” was the perfect match for these socks.

Ankkuri socks are knitted from cuff down. Both of the front and back of the leg have cable patterns, and the front cables continue all the way to the toes.
Before the heel, there are couple of heel flap increases, so that the sock fits better. This sock has french heel, and the back stitch pattern continues on the heel flap.
After the gusset, the sock is knitted normally to the tip of the sock. The length of the sock is adjustable, so you can modify the sock length to be per- fect for your feet. Wide stripe decreas- es are used to shape the tip of the sock.

Suomeksi

Lähdin hakemaan inspiraatiota näihin sukkiin merestä, laitureista sekä veneiden köysistä. Sukan palmikkokuviot muistuttavat minua veneiden köysistä ja erilaisita solmuista, mitä niillä tehdään. Sen myötä tämän ohjeen nimeksi tuli “Ankkuri”.
Koska sukat ovat meriaiheiset, oli myös langan värin viitattava jollakin tavalla mereen. Lähdinkin etsimään sopivaa siniharmaan väristä lankaa. Tämä Säie Woolin Sock Classic -sukkalanka värissä “After the Storm” oli aivan nappivalinta ja juuri sellainen, mitä etsin.

Ankkuri-sukat on neulottu varresta varpaisiin. Sukan etu- ja takapuolta puolilla koristaa palmikkokuviot, joista etupaneeli jatkuu varpaisiin asti.
Ennen kantapäätä on tehty pienet kiilalisäykset, jotta sukka istuu paremmin. Sukassa on ranskalainen lappukantapää, ja varren takaosan pintaneuletta on jatkettu kantalapulle.
Kiilakavennusten jälkeen sukkia neulotaan normaalisti kohti sukan kärkeä. Sukan pituutta on mahdollista muokata omaan jalkaan sopivaksi. Sukan kärjessä on perinteinen leveä nauhakavennus.
