Ankle Biter Socks
The Ankle Biter Socks are socks that are designed to fit any feet - literally! Inspired by the lacy one-size Mouches Socks by Susanne Reese (ravelry link), these socks take the shaping shaping given there, adapt it slightly, and (with permission, of course!), make it fit every foot! If you like the lacy look of the Mouches pattern, though, feel free to find the numbers to fit your foot here, and use Susanne’s lace charts on your instep!
The pattern comes with three files - a spreadhseet, into which you put four measurements - your foot length, heel circumference, ankle circumference, and ball of foot circumference. Based on that, the spreadsheet generates 25 unique numbers, A-Y, which populate into your pattern. If you choose to use your pattern digitally, you can just go to each of the tabs in teh spreadsheet (labeled “toe” and “gusset,” for instance), where the numbers have been auto-populated into your pattern. If you prefer a printout, there are two different PDFs you can download and copy your numbers into, Unfortunately, there was no way to auto-populate the numbers into the printable PDFs, although I did try!
Note: since Ravelry does not allow non-PDF files, you will have to use one of the PDFs, and then the spreadsheet is linked on the first page. There, you can download your own copy of the spreadsheet.
There are two PDFs - one is a full size, five sheet pattern, and the other is designed with a one sheet cover page, and then the four pages of the pattern are each saved at half size, so that you can print it double sized and fit all four pages on one sheet of paper, which is perfect for those who dislike bulky patterns, but also have small handwriting!
The pattern comes with two video tutorials - one for the heel turn, and one for the twin stitch short row technique used throughout to shape the sole and heel. It also has directions for using all one color, or using a contrast color.
This pattern will be free for one big reason - the shaping was someone else’s design, and I do not feel right profiting off of her ideas. However, if you would like to support my work, feel free to send me a Ko-fi, and all proceeds will go to a monthly non-profit linked in my profile.
For the month of May 2021, at the time of the release of this pattern, all proceeds will go to ACT Grants, which brings Oxygen Concentrators to India. I also pledge to match the May total and donate that total both to ACT Grants, as well as Feeding From Far, which distributes rations to those in lockdown in India.
I hope you enjoy your pattern, and I’d love to see what you make! Feel free to tag me on instagram @ladybug.lily and use the hashtag #AnkleBiterSocks!
