The inspiration for this cardigan came from Ann Veronica (1909) by H. G. Wells, a novel about the “New Woman” and the British suffragist movement. In it, a middle-class girl rebels against her father and strikes out on her own. The Ann Veronica cardigan reflects this change in society by combining Edwardian lace with soft curves for a modern look.

The body of this cardigan is worked back and forth in one piece to the underarm, then divided for working the fronts and back separately. The sleeves are worked in the round, with the sleeve cap worked flat.

The cardigan is worked without any closure and is meant to be worn open or closed with a shawl pin.
