I grew up near the ocean. I guess it’s only natural that my first baby girl has a hat that resembles starfish.

In thinking about the one feature I would really like in a newborn hat, I felt it needed to be a hat that will ‘snug up’ gently to my baby girl’s noggin, hence the light cablework.

It’s also made with yarn that calls for larger needles than I used in order to ensure these bundles of joy don’t get cold.

If you are making this pattern for a larger size baby, cast on 12 more stitches in the beginning and follow pattern in the same manner, except the work should measure at least 5 1/2 inches before decreasing.
