Annika's Mitts
These mitts are inspired by my fictional crime fighting heroine, Annika Strandhed, a Norwegian murder investigator with a love of boats. As she spends most of her time working in the cold, I thought about what I would wear in her place. So I went for stranded knitting, a technique of the North which provides warmth and strength, practicality in the ribbing and a bold design to reflect her individuality.
I have incorporated long cuffs that help to avoid draughty gaps up the sleeves. The finger and thumb ribs are also long so that you can adapt to the changing weather and not need to take them off to use your fingers in the cold; calling for back up, or a dive team for example.
Two sizes are available. They are designed to fit hands with a circumference of 18-19cm (7.0 – 7.5 inches) for the first size and 19.5-20.5cm (7.75 -8.25 inches) for the second size.
The stranded pattern is the same as my Annika Strandhed Cowl in which I took a rib pattern and changed the way I looked at the stitches, again inspired by the character.
I hope you enjoy sailing along with Annika.
Just for info, you can find Annika Stranded on the BBC Sounds app which is set in Norway. There is a TV series too just called Annika which is set in Scotland.
