Anniken Cardigan
The Anniken cardigan is designed to be a light spring cardigan with a positive ease of about 10-15 cm/ 4-6 in for a relaxed fit. You begin with a provisional cast-on at the mid back working up towards the neck. The piece is worked flat and shaped with decreases to form a trapezoid. Next, stitches are picked up separately for each shoulder. The shoulders are shaped with German short rows, followed by increases to form the neckline. Stitches for the front are then cast on, and the piece is worked flat to the armholes. At the armhole point, the back and front panels are joined. You then continue knitting the body flat to your desired length, then finish with twisted rib. The body is neatly completed using double knitting and an Italian bind-off for a polished edge.
After picking up stitches for the sleeves, german short rows are worked to avoid excess fabric under the armhole. The sleeves are worked in the round until the very end, where decreases create a gentle balloon effect before the cuffs are knitted. The cardigan is finished with twisted rib on the sleeves and body, while an i-cord edging is worked along the front opening and neckline for a clean, polished look.
Samples: The model in the photos is size XS and is wearing the red sample in XS knit up in Knitting For Olive Merino (Red currant) and Soft Silk Mohair (Pink daisies). The pink sample is size M knit up in Drops Flora (#2) and Kid silk (#3).
