Anning
Anning is an easy stocking hat, beanie-shaped, slightly asymmetrical, with a unique spiral increase pattern. The odd crown shaping makes for a more compelling knitting project.
Knit it in the round from the top down using Léttlopi or a similar lofty worsted- to aran-weight yarn.
(The main focus of most of the photos here is the crown shaping, but the basic shape of the hat is a short-brimmed beanie. You can knit extra rounds of the body section to make a longer, folding hat, but I haven’t tested this idea yet.)
Materials:
64-120 yards of Léttlopi or another lofty, worsted-weight yarn
Needles: 1 set of 5 DPNs in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge; 1 16” circular needle in size needed for gauge
2 removable stitch markers
One crochet hook, in size suited to yarn
Tapestry needle
Gauge:
Gauge is 17 sts and 25 rows over 2”/5cm of blocked stockinette worked in the round.
