Anomalocaris
Knit your very own prehistoric beast - ready to prowl the primordial seas of your imagination!
Anomalocaris is designed for the intermediate to experienced knitter, you will need knowledge of working short rows, kitchener stitch grafting, and picking up stitches. Other techniques include working flat and in the round, working small diameter round pieces, and 3-needle bind-off.
Gauge – Doesn’t really matter with toys – so no swatching – yay! You will need to use a yarn and needle combination that provides a nice tight fabric for your toy to look its best. That generally means going down a few recommended needle sizes for your yarn choice.
You will Need:
YARN: any desired weight and material, yardage estimations are based on standard worsted weight wool.
Approximately 80 yards Main Color – MC (body top, head, top of pincers, eyestalks)
Approximately 100 yards Contrast Color 1 – CC1 (fins and pincer teeth)
Approximately 40 yards Contrast Color 2 – CC2 (belly section)
Small amount of black yarn, or desired color (eyeballs)
One set of double pointed needles or circular needle for magic loop, and one set of straight needles if needed (you can work the flat-knit pieces on a circular, but there are probably too many stitches to work comfortably on DPNs). Pick a needle size based on your yarn choice, remember to go down a few if needed to make a tight fabric.
A small amount of stuffing – basic polyfil is great.
Example piece was knit with Noro Kureyon (MC) and Cascade 220 (CC1, CC2, eyeballs) worsted weight yarns. Piece was worked with size 3.25 mm needles. It measures about 16 inches (40cm) from tail to the front of the pincers, and is about 5.5 inches (14cm) across the biggest fins.
