This kerchief is adapted from two historical lace patterns: the “fern insertion” from The Ladies’ Guide to Elegant Lace Patterns, Etc. (1884) and “mattie lace” published in the Melbourne Leader on the 26th of November (1892). The base of it is knit flat, but the edging requires magic loop needles. It is finished with a very simple braided tie and stitched front. This kerchief is knit with fingering weight yarn and uses about 80 yards.
