Antish Shawl
This is a very simple crescent shaped shawl with lots of relaxing garter and stockinette stripes, alternating in both colour and texture to keep the knitter’s interest to see how the different combos come out. There are also panels of lace and twisted stitches to make it a striking yet delicate soft pretty piece. I used a slightly plumper than usual fingering weight yarn in a wool / cashmere blend for that soft floofy drape in delicate neutral shades for a gentle palette, but any soft wool based / blend yarn of your choice should work fine. You can play with yarn weights to make it even more delicate or cosy, just remember different gauge can change the required yarn amounts and finished measurements.
Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, binding off knitting, purling, slipping stitches purlwise/knitwise, increasing & decreasing by way of KFB, SSK, K2tog, Central Double Decrease & YO, and performing Right and Left Twists.
Materials: Requires approx 792 metres / 867 yards Fingering weight yarn.
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 5-10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:
For the Sample I used: ‘Cashmere Sock’ Fingering weight yarn from ‘The Wool Barn’, 382 yards (349 meters) 80% Wool - Merino, 10% Goat - Cashmere goat, 10% Manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide) in the following three shades:
Yarn A : Sand, (cream) (amount used 213 meters / 233 yards)
Yarn B : Smitten, (blush pink) (amount used 230 metres / 252 yards)
Yarn C : Walnut, (light brown) (amount used 349 metres / 382 yards)
I did use nearly all of the ‘Walnut’, if you are concerned you might run out, you might want to have a second skein of your choice of Yarn 3 handy.
