ʻĀnuenue Zip Clutch
The ‘Ānuenue Zip Clutch is worked in the round as an oval. The finished shape is then folded in half and sewn together with a lining and zipper. Written and charted instructions are provided, as well as photo tutorial for starting the crochet and the lining process.
When you purchase this pattern, you will receive download files for the basic pattern as well as expansion files for three different variations:
- Night Sky
- Rainbow & Cloud
- Cherry
Currently this pattern is offered as a single-size pattern, but I am also developing and expansion file for extended sizing.
Recommended Yarn & Hook:
Marchenart Manila Hemp Yarn -- 3 skeins (150 m)
(or any mid-weight raffia yarn)
Gauge information:
21 sc x 19 rows = 4x4” or 10x10cm
As this project is not a wearable garment, it is not critical to match the pattern gauge precisely. Just try to get in the ballpark and prioritize making sure the resulting textile is dense enough to perform well as a bag.
Other Tools and Supplies You Will Need:
-
Fabric, appx 1/2 yard
-
Zipper, 11”~12” long
-
Scissors
-
Graphite pencil or chalk
-
Ruler
-
Sewing pins
-
Needle & thread
-
Iron & ironing board
-
Optional: jump ring & pliers (for attaching a zipper pull)
-
Recommended Fabrics: midweight, plain-woven fabrics work best, such as cotton broadcloth, chambray, or mid-weight linen.
“’Ānuenue” (ahh-nu-e-nu-e) is the Hawaiian word for rainbow.
Inspired by traditional Hawaiian weaving (of which I am a trained practitioner and instructor), the ‘Ānuenue Zip Clutch bridges the weaving format with crochet techniques. This project was designed as a bridge between disciplines, allowing more crocheters a window into the weaving world and vice versa.
