This is supposed to be a very quick and simple project for beginners-advanced. I worked this up in about an hour. The many buttons allow for putting it on several different sized mugs (after all, who really has all the same sized mugs?!) It fits anything from teeny-tiny to gigantic.

Gauge is unimportant for pattern, and contains guidelines for different sized yarns. Scrap yarn is perfect for this pattern.

You’ll need three buttons, about 3/4in in diameter.

My sample was handspun icelandic and rambouillet. Icelandic and some other heritage breeds (like shetland) have extra friction, and crimpy breeds like merino and rambouillet provide lots of memory to keep this well in place in case you wanted to construct your own handspun :).

You’ll notice that both the crochet and knit versions are available-I’m listing this crochet version under the original purpose, as a mug cozy. This is because crochet tends to be less elastic, and will stay in place better the the knit version which stretches. The sister pattern with knit instructions will be available via ravelry shortly, and will be listed under the secondary purpose-a grow with you baby headband, because of the added elasticity knitting provides.

Please be aware this is my very first public pattern and has not been tested by anyone other then myself.
