Any-Size Stars
Stars which can be crocheted in any size and used to make decorations, baubles, hanging ornaments, bunting, mobiles and more.
They can be made using any weight of yarn in a single colour or multi-coloured stripes or wedges, making it a good stashbuster project.
The stars are crocheted in the round with no seaming.
Using DK yarn and a 3mm hook, the smallest star you can make is 8cm (3¼ inches). If you want to make a smaller size you will need to use a thinner yarn. There is no limit to the number of rounds you can work, so you can make a star big enough to use as a Christmas tree topper or make a few giant ones in super chunky yarn and arrange them as a wall hanging.
This pattern uses both American and British crochet terminology. The American term is given first with the British term afterward in brackets.
You will need:
- Any yarn with an appropriate size of hook and a second hook of similar size. I used Rico Ricorumi DK Cotton, my main hook was 3mm and my second hook was 2.5mm.
- A tapestry needle.
- Optional for large stars: fabric stiffener, blocking mat and pins.
Techniques you should know:
You only need to know how to work dc (tr) and how to decrease. The pattern explains how to change colour, how to make standing stitches and two methods of making invisible joins.
