Instructions are given for the hat in three sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-12. The hats can be knitted with a top-knot or finished with a drawn-up crown for the optional addition of a “pom pom”.
I used a Trimits faux fur pom pom which secures with ties. This means the pom pom can be removed before washing the hat.
The cable/rib pattern means these hats are very stretchy. Please bear in mind the measurements are for average head sizes, just like babies weights, they can vary and boys are usually slightly larger than girls!
Instructions for the mittens are given in three sizes, 0-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18 months. The length of the mittens can be easily adjusted by decreasing or increasing the length of the mitten before shaping the top.
The 0-3 months hat and 0-6 months mittens can be knitted from one ball of yarn! You will need two balls to complete a set of mittens and hat in the larger sizes.
Yarn used 100% cotton, 50g balls (170m). Other 4-ply yarn can be used but check the yardage per ball
