Aoraki Beanie - stranded colorwork mountain hat
This mountain beanie pattern was inspired by the rugged Mackenzie high country I live in and symbolises the turquoise glacier lakes of the area, which reflect the colour of the sky. The lakes are framed by jagged mountain peaks, capped with snow.
It is written with we are knitters THE WOOL in mind, but works well with other super bulky yarns.
It is a super quick knit and a great introduction to multi-color work. The contrasting brim and mountain pattern show off the beautiful colors of this yarn.
Method
Knit in the round, bottom up. Stranded colorwork.
Skill Level
Beginner+

Super Bulky / Super Chunky merino yarn (weight 6)

- Snow colour: approx. 30g, 12m / 13yds
Sizes
One size M - XL, fits an approx. 56cm - 62cm (22” - 24.5”) head circumference. Smaller size possible by reducing the number of stitches by 8, or by using a less dense yarn, eg. Malabrigo Rasta.
