The ‘Apart But Intertwined’ shawl is inspired by the global isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Though we are not able to be together as we are used to, our common interest and passion for creative creation bring us together more now than ever.

About the design:

  • Both the body and the lace portion are designed for you to make as big as you want. 100% customizable to YOUR preference.

  • There are two charts, 1 for the body and 1 for the lace.

  • I recommend 2 100gram hanks of fingering weight, 1 for the body, one for the lace.

  • If you feel adventurous you can try adding stripes of lace into the texture, as both sections easily can be intertwined due to the repetition.

  • The body is made out of the Chinese waves - stitch to represent how we are intertwined, and the simple yet elegant lace is and moves in the opposite direction from the center to represent how we are kept apart.

  • I have knit my version as a fade, and included how to do this in the pattern, but you can easily use one color or use the design to put some scraps to good use. You can use yarns held double or play with different yarns - the choice is all yours.

Maybe this will be perfect for your advent minis calendar?

This is a design made for YOU TO HAVE FUN with and to have a finished shawl as a memory of this time in history. Maybe you want to knit it as a gift for someone to give them when you get to meet again?
