Apple Blossom Shawl
The Apple Blossom Shawl is one of six patterns in issue four of John Arbon Textiles’ in house magazine, The Annual, which will be published in September 2024.
Kits are available for this pattern.
This pattern evokes the texture of vintage broderie anglaise and delicate clusters of apple blossom and leaves. Worked in either Appledore Lace or Knit by Numbers 4ply, the small shawl can be worn close around the neck with a little knot, while the large shawl can be draped around your shoulders. Both are perfect for strolling around the garden and beyond. This triangular shawl with an all-over lace pattern and eyelet motif border is suitable for those new to lace, while also providing enough interest for more advanced knitters.

Pattern Notes
Beginning with an i-cord cast-on, this pattern is worked from the centre-top out. The main body is worked in a lace pattern – ‘broderie stitch’ – with i-cord edges. A border of trellis stitch followed by an eyelet motif is added before the picot cast-off. The stitches at the edges of each row are worked as an i-cord. The pattern can be adjusted by working more or fewer repeats of Chart A; this will affect the amount of yarn required. The 4ply versions feature a colour-fade at the border, but feel free to get creative with fades throughout either version!
