Visiting Apple Hill for a warm cider in the fall is one of my favorite pastimes. Apple dumplings, rustling autumn leaves, and gorgeous mountain scenery. This shawl is the perfect addition to those cool fall days or spring mornings enjoying the apple blossoms. With the “little birds” pattern reminiscent of the beautiful red-tailed hawks that frequent the area.

It is a top-down construction shawl with a simple allover texture of “little bird” cable stitches for the top portion and an easy to memorize lace section (with all purl wrong side rows for a nice break!) for the bottom portion. It finishes with a seeded ribbed border.

The lace section along with the clean lines of the seeded border gives it some feminine detail without being super frilly. And the light weight of the fingering yarn is great for wrapping the shawl around bandana style without adding too much bulk.

This pattern has fully written instructions and also includes charts for both the cabled and lace sections if you prefer charted instructions.
