Apples and Pears Pot Holder
This is a pattern for a apples and pears designed double knit potholder. The double knitting creates a double thick fabric which is good for protecting hands and counters.
Each side is worked stockinette stitch on both sides, so it is reversible with the back side being an inverse of the colors on the front side. It includes my own method for cast-off which creates a solid unified looking edge.
This is the first time I designed a pattern at a 90° turn so it would work well with the stripes in the yarn and they would be vertical on the fruit. I made an apple coaster to test my original color yarn choices which the red had a predominant stripe (Damask Ombre) and then a pot holder. I made a mistake of using the wrong size needles for potholder #1, so it was huge and floppy.
On the second potholder, I modified the design (the one being sold) to make it a tad smaller, thickened the chart in areas around the stems that were a bit obscure in the design and added a border for a bit more vintage, country or shabby-chic kitchen look. The red yarn I used in my final design was hand dyed Sugar’n Cream yarn.
The pattern pdf includes:
• Photo of finished item (front and back)
• Supply list
• Abbreviations
• Pictures of Color options (Primarily based on Sugar N Cream Yarns)
• Written instruction
• 2 Color Charts - One for each side (while knitting even & odd rows)
• 2 Uncolored charts of the rooster design to test out your own color combinations with color pencils or to ‘print screen’ and paste into Microsoft paint to pour color into the squares.
Yarn needed 56 yards for each color of Lily Sugar ‘N Cream, 4-ply cotton yarn. Add more yardage if you double knit on the loose side.
