Apricity
Apricity: warmed by the sun in winter.
We all need a little extra light and a little extra warmth this time of the year. Dark and cold definitely aren’t my favourite combination. Bright gorgeous hand dyed yarn helps, and so do shawls knit out of them featuring simple light eyelets and garter wedges.
Yarn:
2 Skeins of Sweet Fiber Merino Lite in
“Pumpkin Spice” colourway or approximately 780 yards (713 metres) of fingering weight yarn.
Needles:
3.5mm (US 4) needles in at least a 24” (60cm) cord. Or whatever
needles it takes you to get gauge.
Notions:
whichever tools you like to use for blocking shawls (pins, wires, whathaveyou).
Gauge:
19 stitches and 32 rows = 4” (10cm) square worked flat in eyelet pattern and blocked.
Size:
94” (239cm) measured along the wingspan. 22” (56cm) measured at the deepest part.
Glossary:
WS - Wrong Side.
RS - Right Side.
KFB - Knit into the Front and Back of a stitch.
K - Knit.
P - Purl.
KYOK - Knit, Yarn Over, Knit into the same stitch.
YO - Yarn Over.
K2TOG - Knit 2 stitches Together.
Double Stitch - The weird stitch that kinda looks like two stitches (but is really only
one) that happens after you work a stitch using the German Short Row method.
Turn your work - This is worked when you’re part way through your row. Simply turn your work as if you’ve started another row, and work back across the stitches you’ve just worked.
Low on funds?
If you’re interested in one of my for-pay patterns and you find yourself low on funds - please feel free to send me a message. I’ll be happy to gift you a copy!
As someone who has been low-income most of my life it is important to me to be able to make my designs accessible to folks in tight financial situations. It’s also important for me to be able to keep designing knitwear patterns accessible to myself by charging money for my patterns :) Win/win situation I think!
Thanks always to my tech editor and model Nicola Hodges!
