This is a elongated triangular shawl/shoulder wrap with a lace center, stockinette and seed stitch edges and a “knitted-on-from-the-live-stitches” seed stitch border. The sample is knitted from one full skein of Wollmeise lace, and the wingspan is 230 cm/90.5 inches, depth 70 cm /27.5 inches.

In the test group for the pattern we had a discussion about the name, and someone pointed out that the shawl is quite butterfly-shaped! and that is true. I learned the Ojibwe word for butterly, Memengwaa. And I can also tell you that the Swedish name for butterfly is Fjäril.

Just for a second, picture knitting like butterflies that brings words and friendships to us from all over the world!

This is in a way a very easy knit, but in the same time it has enough variation to keep you entertained.

The sample is knitted in 1 skein of Wollmeise lace (300 gram/1575 meters/1722 yards). Wollmeise lace is a heavy lace weight yarn, or a light fingering weight. But the pattern will work with any yarn. It is flexible, and there are instructions for making it smaller or bigger.

I will start two Ravelry groups, one in English and one in Swedish, for pattern support. So if you have any questions on the pattern, you will have answers straight away. If there is interest, there will be an informal KAL for showing our progress and helping each other out. Please tell me if you are interested. It would be so much fun.

The name of the english speaking group will be Lena Strandberg Ravelry group.

Den svensktalande gruppen kommer att heta Lenas Ravelrygrupp. Där kan du få svar direkt på alla frågor du har om mönstret och om intresse finns kan vi starta en KAL.

Errata for this pattern will also be posted in the groups.

In the groups there will also be pattern support for my other patterns.
Both groups are up and running now!
