Aquifolium Cowl

Aquifolium means sharp-leafed in Latin. Term applied in botany for plants like Christmas Holly or Mahonia.

A small neck accessory with unique dimensional texture and construction.

Pattern includes both line-by-line (abbreviated) instructions and a chart. Plus a photo scheme for construction layout.

Worked in the round, outer perimeter inward to center-line, on long Circular Needles.

Intermediate Skills:

  • Non Standard = Directional Yarn Over Closures. Special Seam.
  • Standard = k, p, yo, sk2p, cdd, 5 to 1 decrease.

Directional YO Closures add dimension and angle without the typical lacy yo hole.

No Blocking – Dry cleaning recommended.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but will affect size and yarn requirements.

Unblocked Stockinette:
21 stitches by 31 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square
This gauge provided for yarn & needle pairing, to get an appropriate fabric density without knitting the entire repeat.

1 repeat in pattern stitch:
18 stitches by 11 rounds = 2.5” (6.35 cm) by 2” (5 cm)
Rounds measured along the pointed decrease stack.

Notes and Tips

Can be worked solid or with an accent color.

A firm fabric with snug stitching
will maximize, and better retain, dimension.

Dry cleaning recommended.
