Aquitaine Socks
Aquitaine Socks is Pattern #5 in the Eleanor of Aquitaine Sock Club.
Aquitaine is a region in Southwest France that was formerly an administrative region for the country. It borders the Atlantic Ocean and contains the important port city of Bordeaux containers five departments; Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Landes, and Gironde. During the Middle Ages, Aquitaine was a kingdom and a duchy.
Eleanor of Aquitaine had a considerable impact on Aquitaine. When she married Louis VII of France, it became part of France, when her marriage was annulled, and she remarried King Henry II of England, it was then under British rule. Aquitaine became an important stronghold for England. Large quantities of wine were exported to England which became the principal source of the King’s yearly income.
During the Hundred Years War, the region was a stronghold for Protestant Huguenots who called upon the English crown for help.
This is a mirrored sock pattern and includes instructions for left and right socks. Instructions are in toe-up and cuff-down.
