While I was in college, I wrote (and re-wrote, and re-re-wrote) a fantasy novella about (among other things) a girl named Araleth. I’ve yet to publish that work, but when I started working on this design, I knew it had to be named for her. Maybe one day I’ll publish that work, but in the meantime, Araleth moves forward in her namesake pullover pattern…

Araleth is a quick and easy knit with a textured bodice that provides the knitter with a reward for making it through the Stockinette body, as well as a focal point that stands out from all the other Stockinette sweaters in the crowd. Knit from the bottom up in pieces and seamed, this makes a great piece for first time sweater knitters, as well as a good knit night piece for more experienced garment knitters. The shoulders are seamed using the three-needle BO method, and the sides and sleeves are seamed using mattress stitch (or your favorite seaming method). This is a piece you’ll want to knit over and over again (I’m working on my second and third!). The Stockinette body makes a great canvas for experimenting with gradients or stripes, or you can knit it all in one color if you prefer. There are plenty of ways to customize the color to make this sweater unique to you!

Upper Arm Circumference: 11.5”, (12”, 13”, 14”, 15.25”,)(16.75”, 16.75”, 18”, 18”)/29, (30.5, 33, 35.5, 38.75,)(42.5, 42.5, 45.75, 45.75) cm.

GAUGE:
21 sts and 30 rows=4” in Stockinette stitch on US 5/3.75mm needle, or size needed to make gauge.
27 sts and 27 rows=4” in Star stitch on US 6/4.0mm, or one size larger than needle used to make Stockinette gauge.
Rib for hem and cuffs is worked on US 4/3.5mm, or one size smaller than needle used to make Stockinette gauge.

MATERIALS:
1 16” circular needle in US size 4/3.5mm, or one needle size smaller than your middle sized needle.
Flat or circular needles in US size 5/3.75mm and 6/4.0mm, or sizes needed to make gauge, plus an additional needle in the middle size for working the three-needle BO.
Sewing needle, stitch holders or waste yarn, stitch marker for working the neck trim in the round.

YARN:
Sample shown was knit with La Bien Aimee Merino DK (252 yds/230 m per skein) in colors Winter Garden (bottom hem), Rose Quartz, Dusk and Damask (bodice). If using the yarn to knit your own gradient sweater, you will need 1, (2,2,2,2,)(2,2,2,2) skeins of each color.
If knitting in a solid color, or less (or more) than 4 colors, you will need approximately 960, (1160, 1310, 1475, 1620,)(1800, 1975, 2150, 2300) yds/878, (1061, 1198, 1349, 1481,)(1646, 1806, 1955, 2105) m of DK weight yarn total.

This pattern is written to be color-agnostic. As some people like to make their own gradients, some prefer stripes, and others prefer solid colors, this pattern does not tell you where and when to change colors while knitting. However, in the notes section, there is a recipe for transitioning colors if you wish to knit a sweater similar to the sample.
