Errata: Under the Shape Cap heading it says,“ bind off 2 sts at beg of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 31 sts.” The remaining count should be 21, not 31.

This pattern was published in 1972 in McCalls Knitting Book 5. It is my most favorite pattern for baby gift knitting. I’ve made dozens of them over the years.

I asked for and was given the copyrights to this pattern. So I am now the copyright owner.

An Aran style baby cardigan with a collar, long sleeves, and button up front using worsted weight yarn. It knits up fairly quickly.

5 buttons are also needed. Size depends on the button hole size you end up with when you knit it. (I’ve had sizes from half inch to 1 inch.)

Typically takes two 3.5oz skeins of worsted weight yarn. I would not recommend variegated yarn because it will hide the stitch pattern.

Note: The original pattern includes instructions for a matching bonnet which you can find here: Aran Baby Bonnet
