Aran Blanket
Pattern Description
In the famous fisherman’s sweaters of the Aran Islands, the moss stitch represents seaweed and the cables represent the fisherman’s rope. For the baby sleeping under this blanket, they just mean comfort and warmth. Cable knitting offers many textural variations, and you’ll find two versions--a wide plait and a narrow cable--in this pattern. If you’ve never tried the cable technique, you’ll find that once you get the hang of using the cable needle, it’s simpler than it looks--and fun.
