Aranami 荒波 (Japanese.)- (n) stormy seas, raging waves

Color and patterning of this shawl reminded me of a winter ocean with foamy raging waves on the surface. Poor weather and dark skies reflecting in the ocean add to the color and obscure grey lines of the horizon merging with the sky. Worked in modular technique, this shawl is a great travel project as elements are worked one at a time. Pick your colors and see them transition under your fingers.

Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% US Targhee-Columbia Wool; 275yds/50g): 1 skein each of “Fossil” (A), “Snowbound” (B), “Sweatshirt” (C), “Soot” (D), “Cast Iron” (E).

Note: Yardage is estimated based on usage of BT Loft yarn which is a woolen spun yarn and has different gauge from most worsted spun yarns. If you substitute yarn, you might need more yardage-wise in each color.

5 skeins will yield 2 shawls, only each will be in different color graduation.

Tip on weaving in of the ends: Try weaving ends of the shawl from previous motifs as you go; weave them in 1st row of every new motif, that would help reducing amount of ends by the end.
