Pattern Inspiration:

This year, 2016, is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Smart Knits - a knitting group out of Logan, Utah - thought that a great way to celebrate the National Park Service and the sublime lands that it protects was to design a National Parks blanket. The blanket is made up of 60 blanket squares - one to celebrate each of the 59 National Parks and one square to celebrate the National Park Service itself.

Located in southeastern Utah, Arches National Park was originally a National Monument (designated in 1929) and was re-designated as a National Park on November 12, 1971. Arches contains over 2000 natural sandstone arches within its boundaries along the Colorado River. These arches have been eroded out of the reddish Entrada formation, which is one of many Colorado Plateau rock units studied by the designer of this square for her PhD in geology. This square represents the world-famous and uber-picturesque delicate arch from the park.
