Archipelago
An adult sized slouchy hat with arcs of bobbles in simple lace, like little islands in an archipelago. Knitted in the round from the brim to the crown (bottom up) in a single colour.
Navia Trio is a worsted/heavy dk yarn from the Faroe Islands, an archipelago half way between Norway and Iceland and not too far North of Scotland, with a rich knitting tradition. You will need 2 x 50gr/1.75oz balls to use about 200m/220y (that’s more than 1.5 balls). Shown here in Curry (336).
Measurements (taken flat):
brim to crown - 24cm/9.5”
widest point - 25cm/9.75”
Written and charted instructions are given for a single adult size. The slouchiness of the design means it is very flexible as to the size of head it fits and the idea is that it should fit loosely. Two options are given as to how to knit the bobbles dependent on your need for speed. Full abbreviations given. Test knitted and tech edited.
The initial rib section (for a nice fit) transitions smoothly with a row of increases and change of needle size in to the lace section, which comprises of a couple of eyelets and decorative decreases. The lace pattern reduces neatly at the crown of the hat. Your choice of either magic-loop or DPNs.
Navia yarn is available online from The Island Wool Company www.islandwool.co.uk. The website also lists Navia stockists in the UK & Ireland.
